1996 Caliber 1 205 Skier 20.5ft
I am the second owner of this beautiful 1996 Caliber 1 boat. It is a 21ft. open bow model with an OMC 454 motor and OMC King Cobra outdrive. The official Caliber 1 model is called a 20.5 Skier in case you know their models. There 470 hours on the boat. It?s generally serviced at Century Marine in Mesa, Arizona.
I have two props for this (both 3 blade), one stainless steel and one aluminum. We always keep a spare prop on the boat just in case! Both props are in excellent shape. The stainless steel prop has just been service/balanced and is ready to go back on.
I did an oil change last season as I do every season, another one real soon here. Last season I also had a tune up, carb rebuild, tanks drained & flushed, trailer brakes and master cylinder. I put tires on the trailer, then a trim sender and a transom seal on the drive a few seasons back. Basically when it needs something, I don't put it off. Upkeep is important in my book and that is why this is such a great boat to own I don't have any "surprises" at the lake (if you know what I mean).
Two gas tanks with a capacity of 22 gallons each. One filler is on either side of the transom. There are also swim steps back there and a tow rope cleat.
The upholstery and paint are both in very good condition for the year. There is some wear, but nothing highly objectionable. I have tried to keep this in tip-top condition and when it's stored it's always covered. I bought it from the original owner in 2000 when it was four years old and since then, we probably take it out 5 or 6 times a season to local lakes or to Havasu, although lately it's been even less than that. Seems that weekends are always busy.
I recently had a fantastic $4500 sound system installed and during that time the whole interior came out and was fully cleaned and detailed.
The sound system starts with an MB Quart DVD/CD player that also has an iPod dock and a USB connector (for an MP3 player, portable audio player, or even a thumb drive). Basically any way you can bring music to the boat it can play it. Should you wish to add video screens, this DVD player can connect to them and play DVDs.
Connected to the DVD/CD/iPod/USB player are two Rockford Fosgate amplifiers mounted in a custom welded rack that is easily removed for service of the amplifiers or any adjustments (shown before reinstallation of the rear seats). One is a four channel to run front and rear speakers, the other a two channel connected to the subwoofers. These run very reliably and I had it out at Havasu this year with no thermal amplifier problems, even after playing loud all day. If you have had stereo issues in the hot summer boating weather before, then you know what a benefit this is to avoid the whole problem completely. "Crank it with confidence!"
Rear speakers are MB Quart marine 6.5 inch Coaxials and front speakers are two sets of 5.25 inch MB Quart components installed in a side by side fashion with tweeters in the middle (D'appolito style array if you are familiar with that). They all have passive crossover networks to separate the mid from the tweeter and are electronically high passed in the Rockford amplifier.
The subwoofers are Rockford Fosgate P2 12 inch subs in custom vented enclosures under the bulkhead on either side (driver and passenger). They are low passed by the internal crossover in the Rockford amplifier and tuned to 33Hz. The bass is fantastic. It plays low but very linear throughout all the bass frequencies. You will love it. The MB Quart DVD/CD player has a separate bass level control so you can fine tune to your taste.
Let me tell you the audio system is very musical and makes the lake trip that much better having great tunes. If you know anything about audio systems, we didn't do anything stupid in running amplifiers in to really low impedance loads because they heat up to easily (any amplifier will do this). Instead, we focused on making the audio sound great and be reliable ALL DAY LONG. I have tons of pictures of this installation should you be interested. It's really a great asset to the boat and will only supercharge the next owner's enjoyment without adding any unnecessary hassles or reliability problems normally associated with "boat stereo systems".
There are audio system remote controls for the inside of the boat and a wired remote with a separate display screen back on the transom too. This means if you're in the water you can still manage the audio system without climbing back in the boat. That's real nice. It will even browse the playlists if an iPod is connected, which is even better.
Under the seats there is lots of storage. We have lots of life jackets and most all of them would go with the boat, as would two anchors, an oar, and even a pull behind two-person heavy duty floatie thing we got at West Marine. Of course there is a beautiful blue bimini top (as shown) in excellent condition - the fabric hardly looks used. Oh yeah, it has a blue waterproof cover too. I spent about $250 on it from the place that makes custom covers.
What else can I tell you?? ITS A REAL NICE BOAT! Looks great and sounds great. It gets complimented all the time.
