I have a male shih tzu that I adopted to be a companion to my other dog and it's not working. My other dog does not like him at all. I feel sorry for the poor thing but I think part of the problem is he constantly tries to mount her. I did 2 trial meetings with them at a dog park and then at my home to ensure they would get along and all seemed fine at first but now, not so much. I'm hoping that my dog will be more likely to accept the presence of a puppy or at best, another female dog so that would be my preference. I will consider a male pug as well but with the stipulation, that we do an overnight trial or perhaps even a couple overnights to avoid another rejection.
