I have 3 male and 4 female STO-short tailed opossum ready for new homes.
STO are a solitary animal and do not enjoy cagemates.
They are a marsupial but lack a pouch.
They require a basic hamster set-up for care.
I provide a water bottle, wheel, 2 food dishes, and hide box with several toys.
Mine are kept in a 20 gal aquariums with crittercare bedding.
I prefer a 20tall for added climbing room. Some people prefer wire cages but I don't like the draft it gives the STO.
I feed them dry cat food available at all times
They get fresh cut fruit nightly or babyfood fruit
They get 10-15 crickets or mealworms once per week
They will use their tail much like other opossums and are very curious and like to be out to crawl around and investigate.
STO have poor eyesight and can be easily scared if picked up too quick.
They rarely ever bite. My babies have been handled ALOT and really enjoy coming out of their cages to look around.
