Can't keep your tortoise any longer? Moving? Does it need a new habitat?
We take all types of tortoises, no matter what the situation. We do not sell them. We are simply a rescue and have plenty of land for them to thrive and enjoy each other.
We do not re-home them (adopt them out) - we are their forever home.
We've had many calls from people who find a turtle or tortoise, and want to release it in the nearest canal - STOP!!! - you may think it's a turtle, but not all turtles should be released in a pond or a canal. It may be a tortoise and they will drown. Tortoises are land creatures, and turtles are aquatic (water) creatures.
Allow us to identify what it is that you have found.
Once, a young lady called us from work stating that they found a turtle and wanted me to come and rescue it. As I almost arrived at their place of employment, she called and said, "you don't have to come, we're just gonna release it in the canal out back, that's probably where it came from anyway."
After telling her that I drove an hour to get there and was 5 minutes away, telling her to let me at least identify what species it was....she agreed to wait for me. Good thing, it was a gopher tortoise. It would have drowned!! She was so glad that I showed up to educate her on what they found. It truly was a learning experience for all.
What should I do with my turtle or tortoise?
Well, the start off with, it is plenty hot down here in Sunny South Florida, and it does not get very cold during the winter months. However, when it does, they have proper heat on them, and they are brought indoors for safety.
Many people have lost or found a tortoise. Some people don't know how to properly care for them, but we do.
