This beautiful manuscript chest came from a buddhist monastery in Burma where it would have stored sacred manuscripts. This chest is made of teak wood, red lacquer and covered in 24kt gold leaf and is around 5ft long 3ft wide and 2 ft tall. On three sides of this chest is the story of the Jataka or the life story of the buddha. I aquired this piece in northern Thailand over 20 years ago.
