This manuscript chest came from a buddhist monastery in Burma where it was used to store sacred manuscripts. Made of teak wood and applied lacquer in a technique called Thayo, this chest is covered in 24kt gold leaf and decorated with coloured glass. This chest is around 30 in tall and 33 in wide and 19 in deep. I aquired this piece and many other asian antiques in northern Thailand 0ver 20 years ago.
