The right company...The right product.
Finding the right contractor to seal your driveway can be difficult and confusing, understanding the proper products to use will give your asphalt driveway many years before having to be replaced (if ever)
Your asphalt driveway structure is made up of components such as stone, sand and bitumen. Bitumen is the liquid component in your asphalt driveway that holds the asphalt together and makes it's color black.
It is oil based non-crystalline adhesive from petroleum by natural processes. It is a mixture of organic liquids that are highly viscous, black, sticky, entirely soluble in carbon disulfide,( a product or the earth ).
Bitumen is obtained by removing the lighter fractions (such as liquid petroleum gas, petrol and diesel) by distillation of blends of heavy crude oil during the refining process. It is correctly or commonly known as refined bitumen, cutback, oil base, and liquid asphalt.
Asphalt can last for many many years with the proper maintenance providing the foundation was prepared properly. Weather plays a key role in your asphalt. In the summer it stretches in the winter it shrinks. If cracks or holes are present water will find it's way down under the asphalt and weaken, when freezing accurse it plays a big part in deterioration and leads to multiple cracks or sinkage. In the summer, the sun (oxidization) occurs turning the asphalt to a grey color. When you think about sealing, Use the right product, make sure it's an "oil base" or "liquid asphalt" product...Liquid Asphalt will allow the asphalt to expand and contract with our changing climate essentially replenishing the asphalt of its lost bitumen as explained earlier. When initially applied liquid asphalt has a shine, in a couple of weeks due to the start of the oxidization, changes to a original flat black.
Squeegeed or rolled on sealers are water based and have no business on asphalt, COL TAR is not oil based...it's acrylic. At Acorn Pro Driveway Sealing we help replace the bitumen content in the driveway with liquid Asphalt (oil base) leaving it less susceptible to the elements. Call for more info and your free quote.
