This is The Doctor. He/She is almost 3 years old. I have had him for 2 1/2 years, and he approximately inches long. He was sexed by my vet at about 2 years old as a male. But the vet said it was not a definite sex as he is still young. As he has grown, his plastron has stayed flat and his anal scutes are still v-shaped. This leads me to believe The Doctor is a female. But again, this is not definite as he is still young. While I have always had plans for building a large enclosure in our barn for The Doctor, I have hit a financial wall and am not going to be able to do this in the foreseeable future.
The Doctor is well-established in his/her diet and routinesfor easier typing, I will refer to The Doctor as he) He gets mixes of dandelion, kale, clover, collard greens, mustard greens, sweet potatoes, Cactus pads, Turnip greens, Arugula, and many other greens from the grocery store. He loves an occasional piece of apple or strawberry. While he does like spinach, it has too much calcium for him to eat very much of.
With the weather warming up, he loves to go outside and graze in the yard for various flowers and grasses.
He needs a warm humidity environment that will allow him to dig and burrow. They typically live in very deep burrows. So while their natural habitat is very arid, their burrows are very humid. Their environment must be warm and humid to keep them healthy.
I hate to see The Doctor go as he has wonderful personality. He is very curious and Intelligent. But, because of my financial forcast, I cannot give him what he needs as he grows larger.
Please, serious inquiries only. And make sure you know what your getting into. The Doctor has a very long life span and will grow to a massive size.
