Luca is a 5 year old NOT neutered male yorkie. He is on the heavier side for a yorkie, weighing in around 9 pounds. We adopted Luca in April and were told he was potty trained on pee pads, but that has not been our experience. He has learned a lot though, and now asks to go potty outside, but he does need consistent reminders to avoid accidents. We have an invisible fence, but he has not done well with it. I take him out on a leash. A fenced in yard or commitment to walking him on a leash is important. He would do best with someone that is retired or works from home as he does have separation anxiety. He does okay with kids, but can get snippy if hes bothered when he doesnt want to be bothered. For that reason, I suggest kids 10 He does good with cats, but does like to play with them, so if your cats arent up for a playmate, they probably wouldnt like him.
Why are we rehoming Luca? We were told he does good with other dogs, but he and our golden retriever are not meshing. They did okay for the first few months and I thought they would continue to get better, but that has not happened. Its getting worse. Luca insists on being the boss. Our other dog is naturally docile, so he has went along with Lucas bossiness, but he has slowly lost the sparkle in his eye. Hes constantly flinching and cant relax for fear of Luca attacking him or barking at him incessantly. I believe he lived with a female Yorkie prior to moving in with us, so maybe he would do okay with someone his own size.
Luca does not prefer men. Hes been like that since he came home with us. He has started to warm up to my husband, but still prefers me and our daughter (13
I was desperate to make it work and keep Luca home, but he and our other dog are now getting into full on fights and Im worried he will get hurt.
We will only consider familys that will fit his needs perfectly. I will ask questions and schedule a meeting before agreeing to let you take him. He deserves a good home with someone patient and loving.
