I named him Sleepy/Sleepy Head/Sleepy Dog because every time I checked on the litter, thats what hed be doing. Id poke him to make sure he was still alive and remember how much I enjoyed sleeping during my pain free years.
He was my pick of the litter, the biggest, boldest, while being very calm. Hes smart, not overly aggressive, but takes no bs from the others. His proportions are perfect. Hes even beautiful to look at. He has everything I look for in a bulldog pup, but then I found he had one thing extra, a "cherry eye In my forty years of owning bulldogs, hes my first to develop it, even though Im told its relatively common in this breed.
Probably, hell never need surgery, but its a genetic default that makes him ineligible for my breeding program. If he does need surgery some day, its a minor one costing around $300 to $350 according to a local vet.
I eliminate all with genetic flaws, and yes, it hurts me to the point of tears, but this is such a minor flaw in what I believe will be a great dog, I wont do it. Hed be perfect for someone who doesnt want to breed him. It doesnt hinder his abilities in any way. He could be protection trained, hunted, etc just as easily and perform just as well with one weird eye as without.
I think so highly of him, he ended up sleeping in my bed. He prefers hanging out with me, but he gets along great with his siblings and the adult dogs. When a female here growled and threatened him away from her food, he didnt flinch, just walked up and began eating. I knew she wouldnt hurt a puppy; I guess he did, too. When a big male began playing too rough with him (way too rough he went after the adult, ready to do or die. But hes bold and confident in every situation hes been in so far, including strangers (to him) taking him to the vet (where, Im told, everyone loved him
If I didnt already have two males Im training or if I were younger and not so crippled, Id keep and train him for myself just because I enjoy his personality so much. Sadly, the first two conditions are long gone.
Ive included pictures of his mother (nearly all brindle, some white) and father (many brindle spots and specks) grandparents on his fathers side (two in one pic, theyre on their ranch in NM and one of his big brother (the white dog, 14 months
Im open to trades. I need a few shooting irons and whatnot. Hes a great deal for someone out there. You cant promise anything, I know, but if someone gets him and doesnt love him, Ill be shocked to the point of disbelief
