As of today, 8/17/26, Church is pending adoption. Will update if any changes. We are so excited for this sweet boy!
Church-Male- Not neutered- UTD on shots ( i was told. Until sept) I believe he is 5. But the owner said 5, his wife said 4. House trained, obeys commands. Loves Fetch, car ridesl and any attention at all! Amazing with other dogs, kids, adults, kittens.
Hello! This is Church. He is the sweetest dog I think i've ever known. Here is some background on Church.
We lost our female Dane in December. Our Male Dane was super sad and lonely. My daughter came home one day in March and said one of her friends "s brothers girlfriends something or other" had a smaller lab they were trying to rehome and they were going to take him to the shelter if they didn't find one by the end of the week. We agreed to take him in because I hate seeing any dog go to a shelter, and figured it might cheer up our male dane until we found church a home. The owner had him since he was six weeks old. As far as I know he is current on shots, due in september. The owner got married 2 years ago, they had a baby and are now pregnant with their second child. They also live in an apartment and church was crated for most of the day. We took him in. He obeys a lot of commands, he sits, stays, knows "down and off" Ive never once heard him bark. Not a single time. We had the crate up for the first week for his comfort. He slept in it the first night, but since then he roams with our dane and sleeps in our roomwhen my daughter is home she lets him sleep on her bed) But Church is still a lab. He wants to FETCH, And play. Go for walks, and fetch some more, and loves to hop in the car for a ride. Unfortunately, we have yet to find the perfect home and as much as i've grown to love him, he needs a more active home. My dane loves to sleep 99% of the time, and this is not what church wants to do. I feel like he is sad. Hes also gotten a little chubby! He is fantastic with any other dog and we also have persians and persian kittens and doesnt bother them one bit. His only "down" sides, which they arent are that when you go to give him love, he is all in. His whole tail wags his body, and he will want to be right up on you. Ive been spoiling him since he was crated for so long with his owners. Church is NOT neutered also. I believe his owner had started him off as a hunting/bird dog. If you hold up your fingers and say "bang" he lays down and plays dead. If you decide you want church, I will incude his very large crate, all the leashes/collars we bought him, and some of his toys. He LOVES any toy you give him. Please feel free to ask any questions. We are in ft wayne, and will be willing to drive up to an hour to meet. I have videos if you would like as well. I would say he weighs about 50 lbs right now? I call him a big hot dog with 4 legs. But dont let him fool you, he will always be first if you are walking to the door or just walking down the stairs. He is house trained. I've tried to get him to bark to alert to go out, but again, i've never heard him bark. So i also have a set of bells to put on a door that I can send too. i just want this sweet boy to find the perfect home. We tried our local Lab rescues but they are full, and so are the other foster programs. And I refuse to take this sweet boy to a shelter. While we are mostly a persian cat home, he has been a joy to have for a different change of pace.
