I start with a thin laying of natural dirt/suppliments on bottom moisten it for hours, then add 2inches of sand, toped with plants and a small amout of decaying leaves to start Natural food sources for your fishes(daphna, fariry shrimp, water fleas) they reproduce as it sits and clean the tank! price varies of course. Guppy fry 1/3$each depending on colors sizes quantity /if you buy something else. If I fully plant a betta/shrimp tank around 2 gallons recycled container 25$ its hard to put a price on a fully started and aged ecosystem and you cant hurry it along ao i think its an awesome deal. have a 2 jungle val, grab of anacharis&guppy grass, pinch of java moss, pothos vine, coon tail all for 30$ !
